How Do I Join?
Auditions are open to student musicians ranging from 7 to 19 years old. Based on their audition, players are placed in orchestral groups by conductors, according to their musical ability, maturity, and experience. Placements are at the sole discretion of the artistic staff, and their decision is final. Existing members are assessed every year to measure their progress and to fill places in more advanced orchestral groups.
The Galway Youth Orchestra is currently seeking applications for membership from instrumentalists between the ages of 7 and 19. All orchestra instruments will be auditioned, including violin, cello, viola, clarinet, flute, oboe, horn, trumpet, and percussion.
Auditions for new members in all sections and for all orchestras will be held on September 7th 2024 from 9.30am to 11.30am.
For further information or to book an audition slot, please contact Carmel Garrett at contactgyo@yahoo.ie or by phone at 087-2614357.
Note:
To audition for the Senior Orchestra, candidates must have achieved a minimum playing standard of Grade 5 or higher. Senior Orchestra candidates will receive a short test piece to prepare prior to the audition.
Junior and Intermediate candidates may play a short piece of their own choosing and will also be given a piece to sight-read that matches their level of playing. Junior players should have achieved a Grade 1 level, and Intermediate players should have achieved Grade 3.
